This privacy policy discloses the privacy practices for Ohio Legal Help. Your use of the websites including subdomains on which these terms reside (collectively, the "Platform"), and the features at this Platform are subject to our Privacy Policy, which we may update from time to time. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully before using this Platform.

About this Policy

The Lorain County Domestic Relations Virtual Self-Help Center (the “Platform”) is a service provided, supported and maintained by Ohio Legal Help for use by potential litigants, litigants, court administrators, and court personnel in the Lorain County Domestic Relations Court. By using this Platform, you agree to the Privacy Policy terms set forth below.

This Policy does not apply to information we may collect in other forums, including through emails or offline.

You can obtain and correct any erroneous information we have collected by contacting us as provided below. This notice can be provided to you upon request by contacting us as provided below.

Information We Collect

Contact and account registration information. In order to respond to your questions or set up an account, we may collect your name, company name, email address. We may also collect your street address, or phone and fax numbers. We may also collect your username and password if you create an account. 

Personal Information. We may collect personal information to fill in the automated legal forms on the Platform, this information could include your:

  • Date of birth
  • Partial, social security number
  • Monthly income, expenses, and the property you own
  • Insurance coverage
  • Criminal record
  • Arrest history
  • Domestic violence history
  • Other personal and family history

Payment information. For example, if you make a donation, vendors may collect your payment information, including credit card number and your billing information, on our behalf to process the transaction.

Demographic Information. We may collect information like your zip code, gender, income and age. We may also collect information you provide about your race, ethnicity, languages spoken, or military status and citizenship status. We may collect information about your marital status, family size, disability status, child support information, and other information that will help determine if you qualify for legal help.

Location Information. We may collect information about your location. This may include your precise location. We may collect this using different types of technologies, including GPS and WiFi.

Other Information. If you use our site, we may collect information about the browser you are using. Our web server may store your IP address and domain. We might also look at what part of our site you visit. We might also collect information about the links you select on our site that take you to third party sites.

How We Collect Information

We collect information directly from you. For example, we collect information when you answer questions or make a donation. We also collect information when you use our “text, email, or print” features, where you can text, email, share, or print certain information from our site. We also collect information if you ask us questions, provide feedback, or sign up for our emails.

We collect information that we obtain from third parties.

How We Use Information

To process and respond to your questions and requests.

To create and manage your account.

To create automated forms and documents based upon the information you provide via the Platform. For instance, we may share your personal information with outside service providers, such as software developers we hire to debug or improve our program, or developers of third-party software components (e.g., FormStack, SendGrid and Twilio). These providers may only use or disclose your personal information to provide services to us, debug or make improvements to their software, or comply with legal requirements.

To improve our sites and update our email and phone lists. For example, we might conduct surveys or engage in other activities to understand our visitors and customers. We might also use information to improve our products and services. This also includes looking at site usage trends. We may also use information to customize your browsing experience.

To communicate with you about our relationship. For example, we might use your contact information to tell you about changes to this Policy or our website Terms of Use.

For our legitimate business purposes. We may combine information that we receive about you from third parties with information we already have.

We may also share personal information for research, academic studies, data analysis, and reports.

For marketing purposes. For example, we might also send you information about legal developments in which we think you may be interested, about us, our sites, or other products or services we offer, or to request your assistance in supporting our organization.

When We Share Information and Public Records

This Platform is provided by Ohio Legal Help pursuant to a contract with the Lorain County Domestic Relations Court and therefore the information you share with us may be subject to public records law and the Ohio Rules of Superintendence. Therefore, information submitted through the Platform may be subject to disclosure pursuant to a public records request. If a request is made for your information, we will notify you prior to sharing the information with the requestor.

With the Lorain County Domestic Relations Court, in order to facilitate completion of your case or form in progress, or if you request a form be filed electronically or otherwise electronically be sent to the Court.

If we think we have to in order to comply with the law. For example, we will share information to respond to a court order or subpoena. We may also share if a government agency requests information. We may also share if an investigatory body requests information.

With third parties who perform services on our behalf. We reserve the right to share information with vendors in the future. We may also authorize them to collect information on our behalf. Some vendors may be located outside of the United States.

On our site. For example, if you work for a legal services or public interest program and have registered on one of our sites, your name, e-mail address and work phone number may be accessed by other registered users who also work for a legal services or public interest program. This system is not currently in use with regard to Ohio Legal Help, but we reserve the right share any such data collected in the future.

With our business partners. If we provide joint services, we share information with business partners.

In the event of a change in corporate ownership.

Your Choices

You can opt out of receiving marketing emails by following the instructions in any marketing emails you receive.

You may contact the Ohio Legal Help to request that we modify, update or correct your personal information. You may also request that we cease contacting you by e-mail, telephone, regular mail or other means. To do so, send a detailed request by email to [email protected].

You can choose not to provide us with some of the information that we request. If you do not provide it, though, we may not be able to fulfill your request. You can also set your browser up to reject cookies. If you do this, some of the features of our sites will not work.

Where We Store Information

Our sites are operated in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us may be transferred to the United States. Please also be aware that by using our sites and giving us your information, you consent to such transfer. You also understand that the U.S. may not provide the same level of protections as the laws of your country.

Security

We use standard security measures to protect information submitted on our sites. However, the internet is public and we cannot promise that your information will remain secure. We thus encourage you to use caution when disclosing information online.

Our Sites and Children

Our sites are not created for children and we don’t believe that children would be interested in it. We do not to our knowledge collect information online from children under 13.
